This blog entry will be mostly consisting of me bragging about the warm weather and sandy beaches of Cancun, Mexico. I had the opportunity of being able to travel here for spring break with my roommate, Ryan. Now at first, we were both skeptical of going, considering that Mexico can be dangerous if we aren’t cautious. But after some consideration, we decided that missing out on a potentially fantastic trip would suck so much more then getting kipnapped or something. So we book the trip, which was so expensive for no reason, and let out a sigh of relief that we’ll actual be able to enjoy ourselves for once.
Now roll around to a couple days before we’re about to leave, I’m looking through all of my clothes and supplies to see if I have everything, when I realize that I’m missing almost half of everything I need. So now I’m freaking out cause like I can’t go on vacation without any bathing suits or sandals! I’m yelling to Ryan that we need to go to the store right now but he’s telling me we can’t. So while I’m stressing, I’m finishing packing then finally last minute we are able to go to the store. Being a broke college student, I buy the cheapest pairs I can find and this wasn’t the best idea cause they barely fit and are just ugly. I’m able to suck it up and we’re off to the airport.
So the airport experience was like any typical experience, we check in, drop off our bags, and proceeded through security. All of this went surprisingly fast because we were there so early. I wasn’t complaining at all except for the issue of having to sit at our gate for around two hours because we got there so early. Anyways, we boarded the plane and begin to take off. The plane ride itself wasn’t the worst but it wasn’t pleasant. It was around four hours in total and just the whole time I was so tired and couldn’t sleep. It was like a form of torture having to stay up. Miraculously, I was able to survive and we land. First arriving was kind of like a fever dream, it was so muggy and hot that it was completely different than New England areas. I start sweating almost immediately and am forced to strip to lighter clothes. Waiting for our taxi wasn’t any better because we were directly in the sun, such a great way to start our vacation!

The hotel we stayed at is located on what is known as the tourist strip, or “hotel” strip. Basically it consists of mostly travelers who come to Mexico to relax and enjoy the beautiful ocean. Finally, we make it to our hotel and thankfully it’s air conditioned and cold inside. We check in and the first thing we do is go straight to our rooms to shower. Shower, relax for a little then get food. The food the whole vacation was immaculate, none of the options were left uneaten. And we made it a goal to try everything at least one time, no matter what it was or how weird it looked. For the first half of the vacation, we spent the mornings and afternoons either by the pool or beach areas. Trying to relax and enjoy our vacation to the fullest. Then at night we decided to see what the night life was like down the street. Due to it being spring break there was a lot of people our age hanging around so it was nice to meet new people and learn where they’re all coming from. The night life was ecstatic with music playing from every corner and people hanging around everywhere, packed was an understatement.
After getting our fair share of fun experience at night, we decided to take it back a notch later in the week, only spending our nights up on the rooftop or hanging out watching the shows that the hotel offers. Although staying up late and hanging out with a bunch of random people, who some smell really bad, is very fun. I feel that personally, I much more enjoy staying in or close to home and just relaxing. This may be from a form of anxiety or it may be because I’m a party pooper, who knows! But we made the most of the trip regardless of where we went.

Although the entire trip was amazing and beautiful to experience, at the end, I was exhausted and just about ready to go home. On our last day, we had a goodbye dinner to conclude the trip then we went to bed early to wake up for our flight. And the way back was not exciting in any way. We boarded our bus to the airport, then went through the airport processes then proceeded to board our plane and return home.
Overall, the vacation was the perfect getaway for a much needed break from school. It was enjoyable due to the music, food, environment and the cultures of the Mexican people. It was an excellent experience and I would love to go back to see it all again. But I’ll have to wait till next year for that. Until then I’m here telling all of you about it instead!
